After placing in numerous Zone 10 qualifying classes for the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships, Lindsay Douglass will travel to Lexington, Kentucky with trainer, Mickey Hayden, to compete in the Junior Jumper Championships July 28 – August 1. Lindsay and her horse, Pernot, will jump fences set at 1.40m (4'7") with widths set between 1.40m to 1.70m (4’7” to 5’6”). This is a very challenging competition with the best young riders from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico and traditionally includes riders that move on to represent the United States in Olympic and other international competitions.

During Hunter/Jumper week (May 4-9) at the Del Mar Nationals, Lindsay Douglass, riding her horse Pernot, placed third in the $25,000 1.45 Meter, North American Junior Young Rider Grand Prix. This was the first Grand Prix for the duo, and they were competing against some to the top young riders in the country. We congratulate them on a job well done. Lindsay also placed fifth in the $500 Jr./AO 1.40 Meter Class and sixth in the $3,500 Jr./AO 1.40 Meter, North American Young Riders Championship.
Our summer camps are back in 2010, and we just added a seventh week due to the high demand. The camps will be geared towards ages 5-12 with children divided into age groups. Each day, campers will groom, tack, and ride horses. Instruction will be in the English riding style, however, we have a number of Western saddles if campers prefer. Focus will be on equitation and will stress proper use of hands, legs, and body position. We have a variety of wonderful horses and ponies that know their job and are used to working with children. The camps will run from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon during the following weeks: July 5-9; July 19-23; July 26-30; August 2-6, August 9-13; August 16-20; and August 23-27.
After placing in the $30,000 Royal Champion Grand Prix the previous week, Lane Clarke was back in the ribbons in the 1.45 meter Jumpers and the $35,000 Spring Classic II Grand Prix on McLord’s First John owned by Mickey Hayden. Lane also won first place at 1.30 meter Jumpers out of 59 entries riding Pernot owned by Lindsay Douglass. April Branson placed second in the 1.30 meter jumpers riding Diamond Cliff Lass owned by Ellen Coxe-Price. Lindsay Douglass riding her horse, Pernot, put in a number of ribbon-winning rounds in the Jr./AO Jumpers including a sixth place finish in the $5,000 Jr./AO Classic. Heather Zadra, riding McLord’s Natana owned by Mickey Hayden, placed second in the $1,000 Children’s Jumper Classic.
Highlights from this show include Lane Clarke finishing second place in the $5,000 1.45 meter jumpers and eighth place in the $30,000 HITS Grand Prix riding McLord’s First John owned by Mickey Hayden.
Several Hayden riders competed in the Blenheim County 2 Show and walked away with a number of championships and reserve championships. We congratulate them all on a job well done.

Hayden riders start the show season out right with four championships and twelve first place ribbons at the Gold Coast Series 1 Show at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. Lane Clarke was 1.35 meter Champion with Mickey Hayden's horse, McLord’s First John. Lane also placed first in Low Hunters on Knight In White Satin, showing that we’re not just about going fast and doing tight turns. Lindsay Douglass was 1.30 meter Champion with her horse, Pernot. Charlotte Gadbois riding her new horse, Maxim, placed first in her first Junior Amateur Jumper class. This was a great start for her and her new partner. Charlotte also placed second in 1.20 meter jumpers and second in 1.15 meter jumpers with her other horse Cavaljere. Heather Zadra riding McLord’s Natana (also owned by Mickey) earned four first place finishes in Low Children’s and Children’ Jumpers and the Championship in Low Children’s Jumpers. "All in all, this show was everything we planned and prepared for, " states Mickey. "Our riders placed well, but more importantly, they rode well."

After two years of illness and recovery, Diamond Cliff Lass (Lassie) made her return to the show ring. Lassie endured major colic surgery and subsequent severe laminitis. After several trips to the hospital, Lassie was confined to her stall for over a year. Dr. Robert Bettey, who supervised her care, states that Lassie is lucky to be alive. The fact that this former Grand Prix horse has made it back to competition is nothing short of miraculous. Lassie returned in the 1.10 and 1.15 Meter Jumpers at the Gold Coast Show at the LAEC. She seemed enthusiastic to be back in competition and looked gorgeous while easily clearing her jumps. She is pictured above with rider, April Branson, and owner and sponsor, Ellen Coxe Price.

Orange County
Interscholastic Equestrian League
Year-End Champion - Varsity Jumpers Table IIB
Year-End Reserve Champion - Varsity Jumpers Table I
Heather placed in every class in the Table IIb and Table I Varsity Jumper Divisions at all eight OCIEL shows, mostly being in the top three spots riding McLord’s Natana owned by Mickey Hayden. Heather will receive her awards and trophies at the OCIEL Awards Banquet at a private show/dinner at Medieval Times in Anaheim on April 19th.
The Orange County Interscholastic Equestrian League allows middle school and high school students to compete for their schools many of whom give PE credit for their efforts. The League runs each year from October through January at the Oaks in San Juan Capistrano and includes eight shows over the course of four weekends. Hayden trainers generously take between one to five horse and rider combinations to compete each year. Due to the hectic schedules of our riders during this time, our attendance at OCIEL has been inconsistent. However, when we do attend in force, we often sweep the jumper classes.
Watch Heather & Natana's Winning Style At OCIEL
We would like to congratulate the following riders on the acquisition of their new horses.

Charlotte Gadbois & Maxim: Maxim is a stunning Holsteiner gelding from Europe. He has competed at the 1.40 meter and Grand Prix level of show jumping. With Charlotte's skill as a rider, we are confident this pair will go far.
Ellen Coxe Price & McLord's Cesar: Cesar is a Selle Francais that Mickey purchased on a buying trip to Europe a number of years ago. Cesar is a talented, willing gelding that can do it all and look good doing it. We know he will make Ellen very happy.
Diane Puchbauer & Triple Star: Star is a seasoned competitor that has taken many riders up the ranks. He has earned many championships and blue ribbons at A shows, IEL, and county shows. Diane is new to jumping and will benefit from Star's experience in the show ring and at home.
Ayda Rashtchi & Central Park: CP is a near black thoroughbred. He has a calm and gentle personality and a history of being in the ribbons. Ayda looks great riding him, and we believe this is the start of a great partnership.
Once again, Lane is ranked among some of the best riders in the world for the 2010 World Cup Finals to be held in Switzerland in April. After early high finishes, Lane was ranked 5th on the West Coast. Currently, Lane's efforts are on hold, however, as he shows concern for his mount, Kiss The Sky. Lane has not determined whether he and Kiss will be able to compete in additional qualifiers. This is a very sad turn of events as the pair were off to such a great start this fall:
2nd Place - $50,000 LA International Grand Prix & 2010 World Cup Qualifier.
6th Place - $50,000 Blenheim Fall Classic Grand Prix & 2010 World Cup Qualifier.
4th Place - $25,000 Blenheim Jumper Classic
Hayden Show Jumping instructors and riders participated in a jumping demonstration for the public at Nellie Gail's Horse Holiday Extravaganza on December 20th. Over 250 spectators got to see a demonstration of striding, tight turns, angled jumps, and high jumping.

From Left to Right: Rachel Albright riding Belcam Chirade, April Branson (instructor) ridng Va Va Voom, Lane Clarke (instructor) riding David, Charlotte Gadbois riding Maxim, and Heather Zadra riding McLord's Natana.
Hayden clients, riding school students, friends and families celebrated the Holidays at the Phillips house this year. We were treated to great food and fun activities. We sincerely thank the Phillips for all their hospitality.

Guests participate in our popular Holiday Gift Exchange.

We would like to congratulate Ellen on the purchase of Va Va Voom, a.k.a. Missy. This gorgeous mare is a Grand Prix prospect for instructor, April Branson. The partnership has shown great promise at home, and we wish them continued success in the upcoming show season.
In the Orange County Interscholastic League (IEL), three of our riders are competing in Varsity Jumpers and have already come home with some first and second place ribbons. Their next competition will be December 5 & 6.
With the main show season completed, we are wrapping up the year at Nellie Gail working on basics such as rhythm, straightness and balance in preparation for the next show season.
Several Hayden clients rode at the Del Mar International Show in October with top ribbons going to green and seasoned horses. Lane Clarke once again demonstrated his excellence by taking first, second, and third in .9 Meter Jumpers as well as second and third in 1.30 Meter Jumpers in a field of 52.
Hayden Riding School is now officially offering Birthday Party Packages. They all include riding time for each guest on our horses or ponies supervised by our staff. Other options include use of the clubhouse, decorations, party favors, food, and a variety of horse related crafts and activities. Horse- and Western- themed parties can be geared toward boys or girls and can also include roping lessons. Call us to discuss how to have a unique and memorable party for your child at (949) 448-0823.
On September 27, Hayden Show Jumping hosted a Family Fun Day open to the public. Activities included pony rides, face painting, and roping lessons that ran concurrently with a vendor fair and practice horse show. This was a fun and entertaining way to show the community what a wonderful facility is here at Nellie Gail.

Roping Lessons; Our Head Groom, Genaro, surprises us with his roping skills; and Bailey Hand wins in the Gambler's Choice Jumpers Class and wears her new ribbon sash.

Painted "Mom" Tatoo; The Phillips Family & Friends take a victory lap after winning the Ride & Drive Class.
Lane is off to a great start in the highly competitive opening World Cup Qualifiers, taking Second Place in the $50.000 LA International Grand Prix. We wish him continued success as he competes for points to qualify for the 2010 FEI World Cup Jumping Finals to be held in Geneva, Switzerland April 14-18, 2010. Below are some of his recent placings.
2nd Place - $50,000 LA International Grand Prix & 2010 World Cup Qualifier.

Great Show Results All Month Long at the Oaks in San Juan Capistrano
Our biggest news for August is our great show results. Below are some highlights. A complete list of results, including results for some of our youngest riders at the county shows can be found on our 2009 Results Page.
Lane Clarke Brings Home The Championships
Professional Rider and Trainer, Lane Clarke, performed exceptionally at the Blenheim Summer Classic I and II bringing home three Championships. He also placed both first and second in some big classes.

April Branson Wins Top Ribbons
April Branson once again delivered extreme consistency and excellence riding client horses. In the Blenheim Summer Classic II, in her first class (1.00 Meter Jumpers), April placed first and second out of 74 entries. The following day, in the .90 Meter Jumpers, she placed first and second out of 19 entries. This isn’t luck. It’s excellent riding on April’s part on well-trained and well-prepared horses. While doing a tight inside turn in the indoor arena on Lofty (a large, big-strided warmblood), even our Lane Clarke questioned, “How’d she fit him through that little space?” The answer is: Because she’s April.
Watch April Branson In A Jump Off Round
